Information for Dancers

More than ever before, this event is encouraging dancing.  Ragtime music was dance music, and dance is an essential part of the Ragtime story.

All of the venues are providing dancing spaces (sometimes modest, sometimes extensive) and encouraging you to get up and dance to the Ragtime.  You can dance the dances of the time, or you can just wing it with whatever dance you know.  All are welcome.  

There will be classes interspersed throughout the events in the extremely easy-to-learn and free-wheeling dances of the day like the One-Step, Two-Step, Turkey-Trot, Tango and Waltz as well as the Cake Walk (a group dance).  

If you are unfamiliar with Ragtime dancing, you're strongly encouraged to take advantage of these free lessons.
